A high quality car wrap doesn't just transform the appearance of a vehicle; it also protects the original paintwork and helps a vehicle stand out on the road. But like any high-quality finish, a wrap needs proper care and maintenance to ensure it remains looking its best for as long as possible. At Wrap Nova, we're committed to providing not only an excellent installation but also giving our customers the guidance they need to maintain their wrap.
Hand Wash Only
One of the most important tips for maintaining a car wrap is to avoid automatic car washes. The brushes and chemicals used in machine washes can be too aggressive for vinyl wraps and can cause the film to lift or peel at the edges. Instead, hand washing with a gentle, wrap-safe soap and a soft microfibre cloth is the best approach.
Wash Regularly
Although wraps are designed to be low maintenance, regular cleaning is important to prevent the build-up of dirt, grime, and contaminants that can degrade the wrap over time. We recommend washing the vehicle every two weeks, or more frequently if it has been exposed to particularly harsh conditions.
Avoid High-Pressure Washing
If using a pressure washer, keep the nozzle at least 30cm away from the surface and avoid directing the stream at the edges of the wrap. High pressure water directed at the edges can cause the vinyl to lift. Always use the lowest effective pressure setting.
Park in the Shade or a Garage
UV rays are one of the biggest enemies of a car wrap. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause the colours to fade over time. Whenever possible, park the vehicle in a shaded area or inside a garage. This will significantly extend the lifespan of the wrap and keep the colours vibrant.
Treat Stains and Bird Droppings Immediately
Bird droppings, insect residue, and tree sap can be damaging to a wrap if left for too long. These substances can etch into the surface and cause staining or discolouration. If a contamination occurs, clean the affected area as soon as possible with a wrap-safe cleaner.
Avoid Harsh Chemicals
Many standard car cleaning products contain harsh chemicals that can damage or discolour a wrap. Always use products that are specifically designed for vinyl wraps. Avoid anything containing petroleum distillates, alcohol, or abrasive compounds.
