The Mazda MX-5 has been making drivers smile since 1989. Lightweight, rear-wheel drive, perfectly balanced — it's one of the purest driving experiences available at any price point. This particular MX-5 came to Wrap Nova for a full build: exterior wrap, tinted PPF, ceramic coating, and a complete Cobra exhaust system. We treated it like a project car, because that's exactly what it is.
Exterior Wrap
The colour change was the starting point. After a full decontamination prep, we applied premium vinyl across the entire exterior of the MX-5. The small, curved panels of the roadster are actually more technically demanding than they first appear — the bonnet in particular has pronounced curves that require careful heat forming to avoid tension lines.
The result is a clean, consistent finish that completely transforms the car's character.
Tinted PPF — Headlights and Rear Lights
With the wrap complete, the headlight and tail light clusters received a tinted PPF application. The smoked effect ties the car's aesthetic together and adds a subtle, purposeful edge — while also protecting the lenses from chips and UV damage.
Ceramic Coating
The full exterior was then treated with a ceramic coating — applied over both the wrapped panels and the glass. This provides long-term UV protection for the vinyl, hydrophobic properties to help the car shed water and dirt, and a surface hardness that resists minor scratches.
Cobra Exhaust Installation
The final element of the build was mechanical: a full Cobra exhaust system was sourced and installed by our team. Cobra make some of the finest aftermarket exhausts for the MX-5 — the sound difference over the factory system is transformative. At the same time, the visual impact of the Cobra rear section underneath the bumper is a detail that enthusiasts will immediately notice and appreciate.
The Finished Car
Every single element of this build was executed to the same standard — and the car reflects that. It's a cohesive, well-resolved build that enhances the MX-5's character without compromising the qualities that make it special. Contact Wrap Nova to start planning your own build.
